Dartmoor Summer Wedding

Natural Wedding of Lauren and Scott at Uphill Farm and Walled Garden — My Favourite Venue in Devon

Uphill Farm and Walled Garden has quickly become my favourite wedding venue since moving to Devon, and Lauren and Scott’s August wedding shows exactly why. This natural, relaxed celebration had the effortless feel the couple wanted: a party first and foremost, with everything else falling into place around that joyful atmosphere.

A relaxed day that suits my photography style Lauren and Scott’s priority was simple — a relaxed day where everyone could enjoy themselves. That fits perfectly with my documentary-style approach. I aim to capture the candid moments, the laughter and small interactions that tell the story of the day, and at Uphill Farm those moments flow naturally. The couple’s calm, unhurried attitude allowed me to work unobtrusively and collect genuine, emotive images rather than posed, staged shots.

The venue: rustic charm and thoughtful details Uphill Farm and its Walled Garden offers a rare mix of rustic charm which starts with getting married in the old barn. Charlotte, the venue owner, has curated the space to feel welcoming and intimate while still providing practical features that make a wedding day run smoothly. The walled garden is a highlight: sheltered, full of seasonal colour, and ideal for ceremony photography that looks both natural and intentional. You Also have Dartmoor views outside of the walled garden that you can escape off to for a bit of privacy, Children are safe in the walled garden and often run around with no shoes on .

Fresh flowers and local, well-executed food One of the standout aspects of Lauren and Scott’s day was the fresh-cut flowers from the garden. Florals gathered on site bring a cohesive look to the celebration — the colours and textures of bouquets and table arrangements felt completely in tune with the surroundings. Food was another big part of the day: generous, well-prepared dishes that encouraged guests to communicate. The food is prepared in an outdoor kitchen. Good food and relaxed timing are essential to creating a party atmosphere, and this day had both in abundance.

Photography highlights

  • Candid ceremony moments framed by the walled garden’s natural light.

  • Informal couple portraits among garden beds and stone walls, making use of August’s soft evening tones.

  • Spontaneous dancing and laughter captured during the evening, reflecting the relaxed party vibe.

  • Detail shots that anchor the story: cut flowers, tables set for sharing, and food served family-style.

Why Uphill Farm works so well for photography

  • Natural light: The garden and surrounding spaces provide beautiful, even light throughout the day, ideal for candid and portrait photography.

  • Privacy and intimacy: The walled garden creates a contained environment, allowing couples and guests to be themselves without outside distractions.

  • Versatility: Indoor and outdoor options mean the day can flow between spaces, offering varied backdrops without long transitions.

  • Authenticity: The venue’s emphasis on local produce and in-season florals supports weddings that look and feel grounded in place.

A celebration built around people Ultimately Lauren and Scott’s wedding was centred on people and connection. Their relaxed approach encouraged guests to be present, which naturally produced the memorable moments I love to photograph: unposed smiles, heartfelt toasts, and the comfortable chaos of a real party.

If you’re planning a wedding in Devon and want a venue that supports a relaxed, natural celebration with beautiful garden-grown details, Uphill Farm and Walled Garden is hard to beat. Lauren and Scott’s August wedding is a perfect example of how the right venue, good food, and a focus on enjoyment create images that stand the test of time.

Charlotte and her team take care of everything so you can relax. Lauren & Scott's Dog was possibly the most well behaved dog I've ever come across who didn't even flinch when surrounded by inquisitive cows...unlike me 😅
