As a Devon based wedding photographer, I’m lucky to photograph weddings all over the South West and beyond, and Gemma and Jonathan’s beautiful autumn wedding at The Old Luxters Barn near Henley Upon Thames was an absolute joy to capture.
I’ve always had a real soft spot for autumn weddings – especially when the day brings crisp air, golden light and clear blue skies. The 8th of November delivered exactly that. Cool and fresh, but perfectly sunny, it was one of those days that feels calm, romantic and ideal for natural, relaxed wedding photography.
Bridal Prep at Home – A Relaxed Start to the Day
My day began at Gemma’s family home, where she and her bridesmaids were getting ready. There was such a lovely, calm atmosphere – the kind that instantly sets the tone for the rest of the wedding day. These quieter moments are some of my favourites to photograph, as they’re full of anticipation, laughter and little details that often get overlooked.
The incredibly talented Ruby Lou Beauty was on hand doing makeup, and she did an amazing job – Gemma looked absolutely stunning. One detail that really stood out was Gemma’s veil. It was genuinely gorgeous and added such a soft, romantic feel to the images. You’ll spot it flowing beautifully through several of the photos from the day, catching the light perfectly.
A Stunning Autumn Wedding at The Old Luxters Barn
The Old Luxters Barn is a wonderful wedding venue, especially in autumn. Surrounded by countryside near Henley Upon Thames, it offers a warm, rustic feel while still being incredibly elegant. The low November sun paired with the venue’s natural surroundings created the most beautiful light throughout the day.
My approach to wedding photography is always about capturing the flow of the day naturally. I want my couples to feel relaxed and present, rather than posed or pulled away from their guests. Gemma and Jonathan were brilliant in this respect – they trusted me completely, which meant I could document their day as it unfolded, full of genuine moments and emotion.
Natural Wedding Photography & Beautiful Speech Moments
One part of the day that really stood out was the speeches. Gemma had mentioned beforehand how much she loves speech photos, and I can completely see why. The backdrop at The Old Luxters Barn combined with the soft autumn light made this part of the day an absolute dream to photograph.
From laughter and tears to knowing glances and proud smiles, the speeches were filled with moments that tell a story far better than any posed image ever could. These are the photographs that bring everything flooding back years down the line – and they’re always a big focus in my work.
